Refuse Collection

Waste bins are product specific:

  • Blue lid bins: Paper and card recycling
  • Green bins: Dry, mixed recycling (tins, cans, glass, plastics)
  • Brown bins: Food waste recycling
  • Black bins: Non-recyclable household rubbish

Black and brown bins are collected every Thursday. Blue lid and green bins are collected every other Thursday.

If the bins become contaminated with mixed rubbish or are over filled, the Council will not empty them.  They will also not remove rubbish left next to the bins.  If you have large volumes rubbish you are advised to use the Council’s recycling centre at Villiers Road.  Bulk waste items can also be collected by Kingston Council using their bulky waste collections service.

According to Kingston Council collection crew do work on bank holidays, so collections should still be made on Thursday's as usual during a bank holiday week. The only exception being the weeks after Christmas and New Year when collections may be one to two days later than usual.

Up to date collection information can be found on the Kingston Council Collection Checker.

Houses

Recycling and general waste bins are situated adjacent to No. 1 and No. 12. The bins are labelled for specific types of waste.

Flats

There is a centralised rubbish chute for landfill/general waste located on the landing of the stair well in the main block. This should be used for non-recyclable rubbish only. The chute falls into two large paladin bins at the ground floor of the building. Please be mindful of the noise that falling rubbish creates and refrain from disposal down the chute at unreasonable hours.

In addition to the rubbish chute, there are recycling bins by the main entrance to the building. These are product specific – glass, cardboard etc. If the bins become contaminated with mixed rubbish or are over filled, the Council will not empty them. Similarly, they will not remove refuse left next to the bins. If you have large volumes of cardboard or other materials you are advised to use the Council’s recycling centre at Villiers Road.

Please note the two landfill bins at the entrance are only for use by residents of the small block, as they do not have access to the communal chute.

Green Waste

There is a ‘green’ waste bay also adjacent to No. 1. The large wheelie bins are only for the disposal of green waste from the estate grounds. They are not for personal use. Household garden rubbish should be disposed of at the Council’s recycling centre at Villiers Road.

The black composting bins in that bay are for the disposal of uncooked kitchen waste only – eg vegetable peelings, coffee grounds etc. The compost produced is recycled back onto the estate. If you wish to use the bin, please use the one marked ‘current’. Also, importantly, please do not put any cooked food into these bins as this encourages vermin.
